Margie offers storytelling workshops and residencies for teachers, students, and parents. She has taught in
colleges, AEA classes, school workshops, elderhostels, churches, businesses, and community conferences. Below are the
workshops/residencies that are currently available.
For Schools, Libraries, Clubs, Camps, and Parenting Groups
Let’s Grow a Story. Margie goes through the steps of growing a story from the seed of an idea,
planting it in the best location, and then nurturing it until it grows into a thriving full-size creation.
Using examples of different story genres such as pourquoi stories, folktales/tall tales and others, participants
get experience with the various aspects of helping a story grow. This workshop/residency can be combined with the
program on Let’s Grow a Story, which includes legends
and stories about flowers, as well as some gardening tips. Can be adapted for various ages and groups.
Storytelling for Character Development: Teaching Respect, Responsibility and other Values with Stories.
Stories show us values as
they are acted out, and this makes storytelling a natural and enjoyable aid in teaching specific aspects of
character development. Drawing on folktales, books, and personal stories, Margie shares a simple process of
selecting, shaping, and sharing stories that highlight values. This workshop is designed for teachers, parents,
club leaders, or other adults who instruct children and it can be adapted for specific problems, such as bullying.

Sharing Your Story. Would you like to share your life stories with your children, grandchildren, or others?
This workshop will help you gain the confidence to begin.
Raising a Reader. One of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child is the love of reading and
stories, in the verbal or written form. In this workshop Margie draws on her experience as a former children’s
and school librarian, as well as her storytelling experience with her own and other children to share some
practical ideas and ways to begin or continue the pattern of reading to your children and growing their
imagination through storytelling. * Also available in a program/keynote format.
Workshops and Keynotes for Church Groups, Conferences & Events
Sharing Stories of Faith. Stories teach, inspire, and make connections between people.
They are a natural way to share your faith in many situations and places. This beginning level workshop shows
how to share stories from the Bible as well as your own life. Can be adapted for various ages and groups.
Telling Bible Stories: Sharing the Old Stories in a New Way. This is a basic workshop for anyone who
wants to learn how to select, shape, and share Bible stories for various ages, groups, and situations.
· Pick Up Your Pack, Pilgrim: faith stories for life’s journey. This workshop focuses on shaping
and sharing stories from the Bible and our own lives to nurture our spiritual roots and help us grow in joy
wherever we are planted. This workshop is designed for adults. *Also available in a program/keynote format.
